Labour Challenge on New Schools

Labour Councillors challenged the new Liberal/SNP administration to back the Schools programme at the first meeting of the new Education committee.

Commenting on the decision to decant pupils Councillor Jim Harte Labour’s Education spokesperson said, “I think most of us would agree that it would be much better to decant pupils to another campus during major building works to avoid the inconvenience associated with such an upheaval and the hazards associated with construction sites.

However I understand the concerns parents have about transporting pupils from Renfrew to Johnstone and I’m happy that the consultation has been brought forward to June which will give more time to prepare should parents decide that their children should remain at Renfrew High.

In general I’m happy with the progress of our School Estates Strategy I’m delighted that Labour’s flagship policy is on track and I look forward to the day when the SNP convenor of the Education Board, who has been a vehemently opposed to our Schools Estate Strategy is on the platform praising the results of Labour Party policy at the opening of our next new school.”
